PROGRAMMES

Sign language - sign for perfect

Programme 1

Sign language training for non-verbal communicators provides a means to communicate and express themselves, reducing frustration and anxiety. We already have several children learning sign language.

An added bonus, which will put SASL in the mainstream of communication, is that South Africa is about to include SASL as the 12th official language.

Student with guitar in music education programme

Programme 2

Specially developed music education programmes and supply of musical instruments for the lessons.

Several children with musical inclination are learning to play music with alternative notation as they find it difficult to relate to conventional music notation. Music brings joy and delight,  and is also therapeutic.

Equine-assisted therapy lesson

Programme 3

Equine-assisted therapy for core muscle strengthening. This can be started at an early age, and is tremendously beneficial to counter the natural low muscle tone typically associated with Down Syndrome. It complements other therapies well.

Good muscle tone is essential for mobility and general fitness.

A facilitator and a teacher working with a child in a class

Programme 4

Sponsor salaries for care givers, facilitators, teachers and therapists.

To broaden the reach of our efforts, and provide the best input to the children and young adults in our community, we need to bring in more full time care givers, teachers and therapists.

Skills development - growing plants

Programme 5

Skills development and training is an opportunity to develop a range of skills and talents such as art; photography; growing plants & food gardens; hair dressing; baking and cooking; serving in a restaurant or coffee shop; sewing, knitting & macrame; working with animals (animal rescue shelters, horse riding schools, etc.) and woodwork.

Sports participation - cycling event

Programme 6

Sponsor sports equipment and participation in tournaments.

Children with Down Syndrome currently participate in sports such as cycling, including an annual cycle challenge, hiking, deep sea fishing and competitive swimming.

Some that participate in organised sports for disabled people have set several records, and have even broken their own personal best records.

Farm on coast - unbeatable site views

Programme 7

Funding for a farm to establish an assisted living community space with work opportunities.

We've identified a 247 acre property on the coast with unbeatable ocean views & awesome climate, ideal for an eco-tourism resort, spa and function venue. It also has the infrastructure for an aquaponics/fish farm for a sustainable revenue stream.

Conservatively, an ROI of 13-18% per year can be achieved with some carefully considered development (up to R92m / US$5m / GBP4m with a boutique hotel and related amenities). There is strong local and international demand among discerning travellers for eco-resorts in spectacular, rare locations like this.

Serious investors, please reach out to discuss the development opportunity.

Programme 8

Healthcare support - financial, emotional and prayerful support to children and their families during major health events.

Heart surgery is often required due to congenital heart conditions related to Down Syndrome, but the children typically make a full recovery. Annual heart check-ups are required, occasionally with MRI's. Financial support is necessary to cover some of these costs which families may be unable to meet.
